MY STORY: Living in Southern California, the beach, cross-country and snowboarding took up most of my days outside of school. Being active was a natural way of life, and I was always the skinny kid who never seemed to be able to put on an ounce of weight.
Immediately out of high school, I enlisted in the Coast Guard. I spent four years serving at Station San Francisco performing Search & Rescue and Law Enforcement. This began my path and passion for aiding the well-being of others.
Following the completion of my duties in the Coast Guard, I enrolled in and graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College Fire Academy. While testing for fire departments, I was employed as an EMT on an ambulance in Laguna Beach and volunteering as a reserve Firefighter. The Ambulance was extremely demanding, filled with extremely sedentary periods between emergency calls. After years of sitting on an ambulance eating fast food and getting very little sleep, I found myself over 200 pounds and suffering from a variety of weight related health issues. This lack of health and strength held me back during the physical testing component of the fire tests. Change finally occurred when I realized that I was the only thing holding me back. This began what would become a passionate quest to learn how to change my body and the wellness of others.
I got my start in fitness at a nationally known “big box” gym. Although driven with lots of passion, I knew that my fitness education was seriously lacking. I immediately enrolled in college with the goal of receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology (Exercise Science) from California State University Fullerton in 4 years. The goal was lofty, because I hadn’t been in a classroom in almost 10 years and was married with a beautiful baby girl and a mortgage.
While in school, I maintained and trained private clients, was involved with Student Veteran Affairs, and during my senior year, I was selected as the Strength and Conditioning Intern for the Anaheim Ducks Professional Hockey Team during the 2011-2012 season. To wrap up this chapter of my life, I found myself graduating summa cum laude at the top of my class.
I belive continuous education is extremely vital in maintaining the highest and most current industry standards. I hold some of the highest certifications in the industry:
